Development in the third world has for years remained an imaginary beast whose look differs to different expatriates. This however has seen many leaders fail to impact their countries positively leaving their commitment in an open sun where evaporation concentrates. Accompanied by corrugated ideas, development has been more of a theory than practical. Development therefore, can only be achieved if the shepherds are aware of it and what it entails. The third world is full of ladies and gentlemen whose deeds are based on the copy and paste paradigm. What applied in India did so because there were important factors that were considered before. This explains why in Africa this cannot work. The differences in culture, level of education, values and even the geographical locations plays a role that is different in different countries. Any policy that is to be formulated should respect all these factors plus many others. For any country to develop, it must put the needs of people at the center of any other thing. This is because development is people centered without which, the whole thing remains meaningless. There are three pillars of development namely;
Political
Social and
Economic.
Literally, pillars are built to support a heavy load and being three here, they should be equally strong. If one pillar is weakened, the rest cannot withstand the weight and instead, the two strong pillars will also break due to imbalance. For any country to fully support the heavy weight of development, it must deal with these factors equitably. Innovations and talents must be nurtured without ignoring education which moulds on all these. Instead of governments creating jobs to their citizens, it should create a conducive environment where these three can thrive well. This could not only attract foreign investors but it could also create a platform where small traders from within can develop. This will create an environment where different people can apply their innovations. The government should come in with policies that are fair and whose intentions are not biased. Poverty being at the highest level ever, could be minimized if this is applied.
If proper caution is not taken the future of this great continent of Africa will be lame. This will ensure that all African countries will be unable to cater for their growing needs. This will lead them to the forgotten habitant of poverty where the so called developed countries will be the ones to lean on. This could be very unfortunate and more so, we will have betrayed the heroes who died for the sake of our independence.
The ties with countries like china in offering cheap services though seemingly promising can never be sustainable and if we are to head the right direction, we must have what we call true leaders. True leaders can be in a position to anticipate the impact of their roles in the future of their countries. African therefore must focus on Africa and endeavor to make it meet the global standards. This could not only be achieved through copying and pasting but through innovations based on what exist. Our culture and values differentiates us from the rest of the world and it should define our path towards development. In many instances we have seen our own leadership killing local investors giving foreigners a chance to over exploit our resources. This has been a very good field where poverty is cultivated and this will not only affect the poor but also the rich. Fame and recognition of our leadership by the western countries has totally ruined our progress with leaders exposing their own people to mistreatment and other evils.
To site an example, I will use that of the late nelson Mandela whose reputation is in every book in the history of world leaders. He was jailed for fighting apartheid in South Africa and after his release; he was elected by his people who felt, he was the solution to their problems. When he took over he did nothing to solve the dispute between the blacks and whites of his country. The situation remained a status quo, leaving the blacks under poverty and discrimination of the worst nature. The blacks remain the slaves of the whites and most of them dwelling in slums in their own county. This act received a warm applause from the foreign countries who in regard to this, they awarded him with a Nobel Prize. It was earlier this year that the backs protested and fought foreigners claiming that they are benefitting from what is theirs while they remain poor. This is what Mandela ignored and sorry to say, it is the worst problem that his citizens ever experienced. The question is how was he a solution to the problem? The answer is he was not and instead; he baptized the devils who came into his country and took everything. The news about the Zimbabwean president DR Robert Mugabe has over the years been the top news with almost every western leader condemning him over dictatorship. If you didn't know why they hate him is due to the fact that, unlike Mandela, he chased all the white settlers who evaded his country and grabbed the most productive lands and businesses and made the people of that country slaves in their own ancestral home. He was right to fight for the dignity of his people although this could not impress the criminals who thought that it was their right to take anything that they think can benefit them. The same criminals were responsible for the Egyptian coup and the forced quit of the Gadaffi leadership in Libya. All these have happened due to our failure as Africans to recognize our identity. There is need for us to concentrate on our issues and try to solve our problems as Africans. The wise men said that unity is strength without which, we shall remain the best channels through which every nonsense will be flowing.
Development in the third world has for years remained an imaginary beast whose look differs to different expatriates. This however has seen many leaders fail to impact their countries positively leaving their commitment in an open sun where evaporation concentrates. Accompanied by corrugated ideas, development has been more of a theory than practical. For Africa to become independent, we must focus on our potential and work towards executing our powers.
